Not in many class's.  Having owned a Laser and a Hobie and racing the Hobie
I can assure you that the white sails performed better over time (shape) and
lasted longer (UV protection) then the colored sails.  It's a fact.

All out racers do replace sales annually.  That's because exotic materials
rip and split.  It has nothing to do with the issues here.

On Barnegat Bay... catboat country there are fleets of Marshall 19's racing
every week.  Some race for years on one sail.  None of these boats has a
colored sail.  Yes... many cats used for cruising have tanbark but it's an
appearance item only.

Don't get me wrong here... I came close to buying a Marshall.  If I had
bought one the first thing I would have bought would be a Tanbark sail.
But, that was for appearance not utility.
