Actually, I only did use the extension once.  The bow cleat wants to hang up
on the rubber shock mounted on the adjustable are, whatever they are all
called.  If I don't back in as far, then I can't get the boat forward enough
on the trailer.  I think I just need more practice to get it right.  After
all, I've only gone in or out a half dozen times.  You know, a beginner.

     Just to add to Mary Lou's post, I have yet to use my tongue 
extension.  I'm able to both launch & retrieve and barely get the 
vehicle's rear tires wet.  At least try it first.  Good advice Mary Lou.
