[Rhodes22-list] The Ship

Roger & Slim,

I saw all three episodes plus the preview show. I really enjoyed it but I 
thought they should have focused more on the ship. The blonde was cute but I 
would have loved to learn more about the ship and the original crew. I was 
wondering does a vessel like that only go down wind or can they angle the 
sails for a reach?

It was the first "reality" shows I ever watched and a big improvement over 
what ever else was on that night (or just about any night!). They even 
created a little tension for the viewers when they were trying to locate the 
cut through the Barrier Reef. It was interesting to hear how Cook's crew 
patched a hole in the hull while at sea. They did this from the outside 
using a sail with a mixture of tar pitch, goat crap and I can't remember 
what else.

You really have to admire the old explorers and their crews. Pretty 
impressive voyage with little loss of life until they picked up disease in 
Indonesia. I think they lost 30 or so of the crew after picking up unknown 
illness.  We need more shows like this!
