Ed,

The reason I am looking at the UPS sail is that you can sail upwind with
it, as well as down, but it is much lighter than my current 175. This sail
mounts behind the present jib and furler and would require another fitting
attached to the deck. Supposedly one can set this sail on it's own luff and
tack it just like a normal jib. If I am understanding correctly, this is
positioned somewhat similar to the self tacking jib setup that Stan has
been working on. That's what makes me think that a 60 or 70% storm jib,
also flown on it's own luff might work also. One might need a winch or a
set of blocks at the mast to get enough tension on the halyard though. I
would think that the sheeting for this should not be an issue. At most one
might have to extend the outside genoa track we are using now

This sail may be light enough that it doesn't need poles and as such,
should be much better for singlehanding. Or if it does need a pole, a
whisker pole, which I already have, will be plenty.
