    Well stated!   With one exception.  Abraham Lincoln.   Maryland was a northern state with southern sympathy (and slavery).  Because Washington DC, the capital of the Union was partially in Maryland,  President Lincoln suspended the writ if habius corpus (sp?) and jailed Maryland Legislators, most district court judges, and even some sherriffs for the entire length of the Civil War without cause.  This breach of law, and not slavery, was one of the root issues that incited people like John Wilkes Booth. This is not something you will read in history books.  
     Since the Confederacy was losing, it was treasonous murder.  Had they been winning?  who knows?  Justification for having the Second Amendment...definitely not....but close.  

     Like Dennis Miller says, "just my opinion....I could be wrong."
