the 9.9 has a two part tiller arm.  The part with the throttle detaches and is the piece that is moved to the tiller.  As I recall, the 8 has a one piece arm that does not detqach in the same way - if it detaches at all.  That is the reason the throttle remote will not work with the 8.  I have no idea whether it is adaptable but it was not intended for that purpose.  I assume that other throttle remotes - not intended to be mounted on the tiller handle - would work fine with the 8 but don't know that for sure.
