Now the reason I called this a riddle and not a math problem is that from the way the question is written, it can't be solved mathematically....atleast not by me that is. My wife's professor told her I was correct.
The solution is the boy started with 319 apples.
Since this would eventually run into slicing apples because of an odd number of apples will at some point be left....the boy having to give half of his apples plus one.....gave the one first, then halfed the remainder.
Three salesman came into town for a big convention. Every hotel in town was booked up and none had made reservations. They tried to check into the only hotel with a vacancy at the same time. The desk clerk told them he only had one room left and the rate was $25/night. The three men decided to share the room and get two roll-away beds.
The desk clerk said then the room was $30 instead of $25, so each man paid $10. Later on the desk clerk felt guilty about cheating the men out of the five bucks and gave the bell boy five and sent him to the salesmen's room to return it. The bellboy decided to only give them three and kept two for himself.
So if each man got a dollar back, then each paid $9. 9 x 3 is 27 and the two the bell boy kept makes 29. What happened to the last dollar?
