I realize the guy was "just" going out to Catalina, but where was his radio
backup? EPIRB? Notification of others, Etc.? His survival skills have been
proven. Now, let's talk about his contingency planning...(but then, who
needs a plan when you can float to Cost Rica on birds and rainwater, right?)

How do you suppose he killed the birds? Clunking them over the head with
his hand-held? Snaring them with his antenna cable? Whittling his paddle
down to make a spear? Catching rainwater in his...lifeboat? HELLO?
Really!!?? How wise is it to venture out into the Pacific ocean, infamous
for its confused seas, alone, in a smallish boat without SOME kind of safety
net?

Great survivalist. Clever bird hunter. Short on brains!!!! Surely, this
could have been prevented. I hope the movie proves that he was just that
damn good a sailor and simply got unlucky.

Slim

P.S. The subject line says: Ocean going Rhodes. Please tell me this wasn't
really a Rhodie. Was it a Rhodes? I didn't hear that part.
