[Rhodes22-list] New Yamaha Questions

Jay,

I use an alternator along with solar panels. No problems. I have an 8 hp
Tohatsu, but I would guess the output is similar. I have a Link 10 meter
which shows the output from the alternator as it goes to the batteries, and
it never gets close to cooking anything. My batteries have lasted for 5
years without ever coming off the boat or getting recharged by shore power.

Subject: [Rhodes22-list] New Yamaha Questions

Folks,

I have a new Yam 9.9 HT installed with a few questions-

1) On standard motor mounting, has anybody used either the
Yamaha-supplied mounting bolts to the clamp bracket or a cable to the
eyebolt. Both are to secure the motor should the clamps or motor
bracket give way.

The clamp bracket is positioned high on the fiberglass block and the
screws are tough to reach inside the block for lock nuts. There's an
eye for the cable on the starboard side of the motor. Has anyone
reversed it to the opposite side to attach to the portside eyebolt? The
threaded pipe turns with the nuts being backed off from both sides.

2) Is anyone using the alternator along with solar panels, or will it
cook the batteries?

3) Any recommendation on choice of gas-regular, plus, etc.?

Besides the multiple turns of the throttle prior to starting, and some
of what's already written, any other suggestions, break-in running,
etc.?

Thanks for input on this.
Jay
