Marc,

We just had Raven's mast down in the slip last weekend to replace the boom
slide assembly. Went down and up without a hitch using the circa 1988 mast
raising system. We were careful to try and keep the boat as level as we
could during the lowering and raising process. Our system uses short
stabilizing lines that run from the cabin top rails to eye straps that are
about 6' up the mast. I made sure these lines were as tight as I could
reasonably get them to minimize side-to-side movement. I'd recommend doing
it in as calm conditions as you can find, as well. We had a few wakes come
in that rocked the boat and made me a bit nervous.

Dear List members,
I had an unfortunate accident with my boat...she got loose in the slip
and the forestay broke. Has anyone lowered the mast with the boat in the
water, or must I do it on the trailer? Any tips about raising and lowering
while in a slip? Thanks for your input!
