[Rhodes22-list] I Hate My Trailer

Joe,
Interesting discussion, especially the message that says that the bunks will
dictate where the boat will sit on the trailer. That makes sense, but it
was not my experience. I have a '95 Triad (it looks a lot older), and when
I had the bow stop moved forward a foot and re-welded, the boat did sit
further forward on the trailer. The way it is supposed to work, according
to Elton, is that you tighten the boat up against the bow stop with the
winch, and then when you pull the boat out of the water it will move away
from the bow stop about six inches. Then you can loosen the winch and
retighten it, but not too much. You are supposed to trailer it with the bow
stop away from the boat because the boat moves up and down going over bumps
and the bow stop will mark up the bow of the boat and ruin your paint job
and gelcoat. That is exactly how it works with my boat. One time I did not
tighten the winch enough before I pulled it out of the water and the boat
settled further away from the bow stop - about 9 inches. It fishtailed like
crazy as a result until I redistributed more weight.

When you pull the boat up on the trailer, the bow eye should be above the
bow stop - if it isn't you should move the trailer further (deeper) into the
water.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I just wish I could sail as well as I can
trailer...
