On the other hand, it may pay to shop around. I wouldn't
want to be involved in an accident and have them discover
that way that we weren't in compliance. Our trailer had
brakes when we got it but they weren't working. We had a
shop replace the coupler/actuator, the lines and the brakes.
Total cost was somewhere around $600 - $700. The R22 is at
the upper range of what we would be comfortable towing with
the Blazer. We've towed the trailer with and without brakes.
There is no doubt that having operational brakes on the
trailer have given us a definite improvement in braking
ability.
