[Rhodes22-list] Boat Dogs

Will,

We were down in the BVI a couple of years ago anchored off the Bitter End
Yacht Club on Virgin Gorda for 3 days. There was gal who was obviously
living aboard her 35' (or so) double-ender (we thought Baba, maybe?) with
her lab. She'd bring the dinghy alongside, the dog would jump in, and they'd
head for shore. The dog stood on the forward tube of the dinghy like a hood
ornament - it was a real hoot to watch. They'd hit wakes and we'd be sure
the dog was going to go swimming, but it managed to stay balanced and
onboard the whole time. When they got close, the dog would jump out for a
swim, run ashore, and do it's business. She'd idle along next to the shore
and the dog had a nice run / swim / explore as it kept up w/ her. Then she'd
pull in to shore and the dog would jump back in the dinghy, they'd go back
to the boat. The dog would climb back in using the boarding ladder w/ a
small shove on the bottom at thr right moment - like Rummy's dog. All in
all, a very impressive display of good boatsdogship.
