[Rhodes22-list] Small temporary replacement motor

My Yamaha 9.9 gears jammed in November (causing a dock accident fortunately
without any personal injury but with bow and anchor damage), and motor cable
parts and seals are still on order (the wrong ones having arrived twice). I
am at a dock where it is not feasible to sail in or out. The weather being
beautiful in the winter in Texas, I am running out of patience and thinking
of buying a small 2 hp motor just to get some more sailing time. It would
just be an extra once the 9.9 is fixed--the 9.9 is way more power than I
have needed, and heavy, but has the advantage of the linked steering and
contols on the tiller.

Has anyone had any experience with small, non-linked motors on the R22--even
as to simple things like whether the motor's tiller will be free of the back
of the boat as it goes down the track into the water. Getting into my slip
in close quarters is almost impossible at best in any kind of wind, and I
guess I would be leaning over the stern fooling with a motor when I need to
be watching the bow--but anything (except what did happen) can probably be
managed a few times.

I probably will do the sensible thing and continue to wait--but I want to
get out on the water! (I haven't looked into renting an engine--if that is
possible--but I would still have the questions above.)
