Ed,

You've probaboy got chrome plated zinc fittings. The fittings are
normally made in standard sizes and angles, so you should be able to buy
stainless replacement fittings as "drop in" replacements. By now, if
your fittings are discolored, it's time to remove and re-bed the
fittings anyway. That would be a good time to replace them. BUT
stainless steel fittings cost much more.

As an example, a 60 degree rail base in 7/8" stainless goes for $11.99
while the chrome zamark comperable base goes for $5.99 at West Marine,
pg 568. When you are looking to replace the fittings, give Sailnet a try
too. I don't know what their prices are on these fittings, but they are
competative and I've been told they beat the other guys a lot. 

Speaking of the catalogues, I guess we'll loose Boaat US helpful guides
as listed in their catalogues. I always look at those things for
guidance.
