Joseph,
We replaced our old Suunto (Bluet) stove this past year with a newer model
that uses the newer style canisters with valves. If the square pan with the
old Bluet stove is in good shape it's a fairly easy switch. I think Fred
had to file the holes for the burner support a little wider to accommodate
a slightly different pattern. At the time I wrote to the list:
"Our stove appeared to be an old Suunto backpacking stove that had an 8"
square stainless pan replacing the stove's windscreen. The square pan
screwed into the underside of the galley counter. Amazingly, Suunto makes
an almost identical stove that uses its newer 270 (or 470) canisters - the
larger ones with valves. we were able to use the same square pan with a few
modifications. Haven't actually fitted the stove back in the galley so
can't report complete success yet but it appears to ba a happy solution. I
actually really liked the little Suunto stove in spite of the fact that you
couldn't remove the canisters once they were in place. It was very reliable
and easily regulated. The new one has a larger burner so we'll see how it
works in its small space - carefully."

and ""Our replacement stove is labeled a Turbo 270. We bought it from REI
and you could probably buy it from them on the web. Other camping supply
stores may carry it as well. It uses the newer Camping Gaz canisters (also
butane/propane mix) with the valve so you can remove the canisters before
they are empty. They have a proprietary valve so you still have to use the
Gaz canisters only but you can use either the 270 or 470 Gaz canisters.
Sports Authority carries the canisters as well as REI. We had to enlarge
the four holes through the stainless square pan that the pot supports go
through to fit the slightly different position of the pot supports on the
new stove. Fred's had it out on the boat boiling water so I can report that
it seems to work without any hot spots (a concern because of the larger
burn head)."

I can now report after one season that it works very well indeed.

Hope this is helpful,
Mary Lou
