	Hi Ben,
It was just a few screw holes, used Boatlife, works fine. With some
fussing, was able to put the mount next to the Captain's chair without
interference. The hole for the connector was a 7/8 's or something close to
it. As I remember, I went under the specs in hole size, was glad I did, it
fit without any sanding. You might want to check with a piece of scrap
first.. Did you get the extensions? Two 5" ones work for me (IIRC).
For storage, I remove the post and the TP, just have the base on the
gunnel.
More snow and slush forcast, but it's getting above freezing....yay!
	Good Luck,
	gil

Good thought on the guage change.

What makes me most nevervous is drilling into the gunnel for the mounting
hole of the main untit. Did this cause you any grief? Also, the hole
required for the electrical socket was some impossible to find metric
diameter. I have a bit that is very very close, so I thought that I would
use that one and close any gap with a good silicone sealant.

Thanks,
Ben

	Hi Ben,
I installed the same autopilot last summer, the wire connections are
a $%@#$% bear!
The connections are just itty bitty screws, but you need pretty big wire for
the current. I
used a terminal strip, connected to the receptacle with short 16 guage
wires, then 10 gage to the
electric panel. You might want to consider this method as well. It also
makes it easier
to connect the GPS and remote.
It's snowing here, still around 32 degrees, don't want to know how
warm you are! I've
learned to use a heater under the canvas to get anything done on "Closing
Time".
	Good Luck,
	gil

I stripped, sanded, and re-varnished my tiller over the last couple of
weekends, and I have to say, I didn't know it could look that good. If
anyone has a tiller that is less than gleaming, I would highly recommend
this as an easy and satisfying project that can kill some weekend hours
until sailing starts again.

If the weather holds this weekend (sunny and high 60's both days), I am
going to install the tiller auto-pilot that Santa brought me, and start
sailing. I went to do my install once, but got carried away with other
maintenance and never got to it. Any gotchas on installing the ST1000+ ?

Anyone else doing interesting things with their boats during the off season?
