[Rhodes22-list] awning/tent poles

Bruce,

Yes I am using flexible tent poles. I plan on making some improvements but
basically the 8X10 tarp is first laid over the boom with a bungee securing
each corner. I slid three sections (four poles in each section) of flexible
tent poles over the boom and under the tarp. I haven't measured the poles
but they are about two feet each. The flex of the poles trying to straighten
out hold the tarp open and were the only thing I used to hold them in place.
It worked just fine but was not the strongest design.

I have set up since using four additional bungees. Two attach to stays and
pull the front forward and two bungees attaching to back stays pull the rear
aft. I need to sew some tabs to thread the poles to make the thing more
secure. For now I set up a system of line loops in the grommets on the
front and back end so I can thread poles. I tied a small bowline (loop about
the size of a nickel and fed the running end through the grommet. I tied a
stopper knot on the other side and cut line. I just thread the front and
rear bow through the bowlines. The middle bow stays in place on its own.

I was going to use Rummy's design but I had the tent poles already. The
curved top provides a bunch of shade and also sheds rain water and dew. The
tent poles came from a 20 year old dome tent. The rain fly from the tent
serves as my poptop enclosure.

I will try to remember to take a picture next time I set up.
