The Hudson suddenly narrows just north of it's widest point the Tappen Zee
and passes through the Highlands. It is really spectacular... steep rocky
cliffs coming right down to the rivers course. The effect of the narrowing
is to increase the wind velocity (same principal as a carburetor!)

It's known as the North River! Or the Hudson River.
