Ron,
I see that you have your fore stay attached with pin and the type of cotter
ring that is open on the inside for easy removal.  The problem is that
they're too easy and sometimes remove themselves.  Not once, but twice I
have found them to show up missing--could have been a disaster but caught in
time.  Better to use the closed type of ring and even then wrap with sail
tape.
