[Rhodes22-list] How does all that water find it's way tothebilge.

Wally,

Damage looks minimal. It's a boat. Some stuff got wet. My only concern is
expanding water turning to ice in a confined area.

I don't think I had a problem around the companionway hatch. Mine stays
dry. The cockpit seats did not have ice on them by the time I got to the
boat. The step did not show any water damage.

My guess is that most of the water came right in under the pop top, and
seeped from there to everywhere else. My boat is usually quite dry. It is
exposed to the elements 365 days a year. I don't get a bilge full of water
a year.

We got 50-60 inches of snow this year, 24 inches in a single storm. The
snow piled up. Then it rained. Then everything froze. We have had
standing snow/ice for more than a month. That is also unusual around here.
My guess is that the ice developed its own channels that went under the pop
top lip and into the cabin. There was so much water standing in places that
normally shed water that a small percentage could result in a remarkable
amount of water in places that water seldom accumulates.

I should have checked it more often. I have raised the bow. It's supposed
to pour again today. I'm not worried. But I will check it out as soon as
the storm is over.

Bill,

Wow, I hope you had no damage. What were the water entry point(s)? After the
drains froze do you think water came in around the companionway hatch?

I hope everything dries out ok.

Wally
