[Rhodes22-list] Motors

Anyone have any experience with these new Briggs and Stratton 5 Hp 4 stroke
motors? For $700 (new), I wonder what one would be getting into. Is 5 Hp
enough for lake sailing? I doubt I'll ever get around to much big water. -

I looked though some of the archives, but didn't see anything on this,
although I expect it's been covered.

Any suggestions on minimum and/or maximum horsepower and any other
suggestions on motors? The 76 model I have seems to have an electrical
problem, the reverse doesn't work, and there is an oil leak from the shaft
area. Plus, it's a Johnson which I'm led to believe is hard to get parts
for (something about bankruptcy(s)). I figure I can get it fixed, but I'll
still have a repaired 76 motor. I asked at the marina about new ones (talk
about almost having a stroke, I had no idea how much these things cost!).

A buddy of mine has one, but I'm pretty sure it's a short shaft model. Has
anyone had a longer shaft installed? And at what cost? (I think I can steal
my buddies and it might be worth having a longer shaft installed).

Or, anyone out there with an extra motor to sell? thanks - rob
