[Rhodes22-list] spreaders

Jim,
I have never taken my spreaders down, but they did come down on their own
one day while I was sailing! That was exciting, but ruined a perfect
sailing day. Turns out that there is a through bolt that is secured on one
side with a nylon nut. The nut came loose over time and it gave way. I had
to drop the mast, then just secured the bolt and nut with lok-tite and it
has been fine since. However, I now always check it whenever I trailer or
whenever the mast is down. The thick part of the spacers go facing the
front of the boat so the spreaders might angle back slightly. However, when
I tighten the bolt and nut tight enough, the spreaders on my boat do not
angle back, they are perpendicular.
