[Rhodes22-list] Dis politics thread been belly belly good tome:-{D>

Steve,

Now I have only read this one e-mail, since it was top of my inbox, so others may have brought up the same point. Seeing that Stan took time to post means it probably has.

Say for instance I make sailboats...no just say widgets. I sell widgets to a company in France for the equivalent of $10 US. They cost me $6 to manufacture. (factoring in for raw materials, labor, etc. etc) So for every widget I sell, I net $4 US.

So when the dollar loses ground against the Euro, I only get the equivalent of $8 US. You can see that the intersection of the supply and demand curves (mx+b = P = mx+b), "P" shifts dramatically.
Sure, I start to sell widgets like a madman, but I now have to sell twice as many. And now I have to hire another worker to keep up with orders. To a government analyst, it appears that my sales go off the chart, (gross sales maybe) but my profit is cut by more than half. But some guy found a job, and the French guy I sell to is taking holiday on Mikinos.

BTW when I was laid off, I was three months out of the Army, my wife had a seven month old baby to care for. I had not yet passed my union probation which meant that I did not have health insurance. Besides, I wasn't living off your dime anyway...it was all of the dimes I had been putting in since I was working from the age 15 and paying taxes. Of course it would have taken quite a few less dimes if I was living in Arkansas at the time.

It is good to know that you have never needed a helping hand. But I am right here if you need it, brother.

Todd
