	Aren't bitterns birds? Does he keep them on his boat?

Can't you just measure the batten pocket and go from there?  Buy a batten
that's a bit longer than the pocket and trim it as needed.  By the way, what
are "bitterns" --the plural for batten?

Last year I replaced the bitterns after carefully measuring each one and
writing the dimensions down for further reference.  Today I went to put the
bitterns back in after having my main cleaned and otherwise fixed up.
However I could only find one batten, labled 'lowest batten and no paper
with the dimensions.  So much for my so-called "efficiency".  Does anyone
with a better record of data keeping than I happen to know the sizes of the
bitterns in that era of mainsail?
