Lou:
In the email archives are other discussions on repairing and
replacing port lights and everything else for that matter. Unfortunately,
when people reply or change the subject they routinely do not change the
subject line of the email. This makes searches of the email history on the
list difficult. That is why Bill has posted many requests to change the
'Subject' line. Unless the person who did the fix is still on the list and
answers the question again, it is hard to find the information. This is why
Tom Evans deserves special recognition for the FAQ site.

After you accomplish each fix, if you can copy related emails and summarize
your work. You can submit it to Tom and he posts it to the FAQ's. He
accepts help. The next guy with a similar problem can then refer to your
work. If he listens to Bill, he will send you a check.

Stan and General Boats have outlasted innumerable suppliers. Even where the
supplier is still in business, the models change from order to order. Then
Stan has to figure out where to get what he needs to make new or fix recycle
boats. Then he has to get the stuff and make it work. When it comes to
boats, Stan is the man. He gets some help from Rose and Elton, but they are
usually asking him. All his employees depend on Stan to get their paycheck.
Importantly, there are people depending on all of them to get their Rhodes
22. What Bill and I are saying is that Stan is in the business of making
and recycling boats, not selling information on how to do it. Don Casey and
other authors have written some good books on the subject. Bill, Roger, and
many others have recommended good books on the subject. Self-study is part
of the answer if you do not want to hire GBI. The exchanges on this list
are another part of the answer.

Keep in mind that you can hire GBI to do a custom recycle for you.

Bill Effros eloquently discussed the subject in:

ED, Bill , Stan
I have printed and read the R22 archives on portlight replacement as
well as doing other searches online for details on measuring and
deciding which size to best fit into the boat depending upon existing
manufacture's specs and availability.
Bill/ Stan : I personally would be willing to PAY an ANNUAL FEE to GBI
for information on aftermarket parts, repairs and advice . I think it
would behoove everyone who owns a Rhodes to do the same as the info is
invaluable.
In my field of video production we are always asked if we want online
tech support for a large fee. YES there is online FREE support but you
have to wait for it . The manufacturer's dont get back to us on repair
issues EVER, we have to hire a shop or a specialist and wait. I
realize there is a major difference as our boats are not our work, but
since there is only manufacturer here who knows everything about the
boat and its parts, it only makes sense to compensate them for a
service rendered.
  just my .02
