[Rhodes22-list] West Marine Catalog

Ben, Rob,

I send this out once a year. I don't work for Defender, I work for us, and I believe it's important to keep Defender in business so we can keep West Marine honest:

Defender is primarily mail order. They have one location in the boondocks
of CT, and they supply their original location in New Rochelle, NY. They
consistently (although not always) offer the lowest prices in their catalog
which is extensive but poorly indexed and cheaply printed.

The Defender catalog will save you a fortune, however, as West Marine and
most of the others will match the prices if you bring in the Defender
catalog.

I buy things I need immediately and things I think I might want to return
from WM. I buy everything else from Defender. It is important to all of us
to keep them in business, and to keep them sending out that huge catalog
with the low prices. Because they exist I'm sure I pay 20% less for boat
stuff every year than I would if they did not exist.

They charge sales tax only on items shipped to CT addresses, so the lack of
sales tax usually more than offsets the cost of shipping.

Their internet address is:

PS -- Michael, have they closed the New Rochelle store?

Man, I didn't know they matched prices. You probably just saved me
thousands over the next decade!

I would destroy your credit cards first, that book has lead many a finily to
ruin :-), make sure to cheek prices with defenders
first, west will price match and defenders is alot cheaper(sometimes)

Got my (first) West Marine catalog in the mail yesterday. Boy, what a book.
I can see what I'm going to curl up with in front of
the fire for the next couple of weeks. My wife thought we had gotten
another phone book.

It's going to be in the 50's today and the snow and ice are melting. It
won't be long before it's sailing time!
