[Rhodes22-list] Seaward 26RK

MJM: Tough question. The first thing I looked at and wondered about were
the size of the sheets - they seemed a bit skinny for my liking - obviously
a very minor point.

Sails were adequate for the job.

Winches did what was needed to be done.

I like the tiller for smaller boats like the 26RK. She was very responsive
and "I believe" a wheel is over kill in this size range. The outboard was a
short shaft - (8hp I believe) but pushed the boat in the channel with no
problems. As a "minimalist" who likes simplicity, I think that I would go
with the tiller and outboard arrangement.

Others I know prefer the diesel and the wheel. My friend has the 25 with
the wheel and diesel and loves it. Could be I have spent so much time (40
years) in small sail boats, that I just like the feel of a tiller. When we
"bareboat" on 35' and larger (the last nine years), I like the wheel and the
diesel.

The advantage of the 18hp diesel on the 26RK is that you can get hot water
if you are prone to want to do some cruising and spend a few days aboard.
The boat definitely has a "big boat" feel so I believe that one would be
happy with the diesel and the wheel if they were to select those options.

I'll be spending a few days on the boat in Chicago this next week. Let me
look her over again and see if I see things that "I would" prefer.

Bob
