Nell,

You're going to love your boat.  If a trailerable pocket cruiser is the best type of boat for your needs, you will not be able to find a better one than the R-22.  You can trust Stan.  He will not sell you junk, even if it's something he made.  Some of the things he has made which he thinks might be junk are beloved by people on the list who have bought them.  Consult the list when in doubt.

We have answered the question "Why do you love your boat?" so often I thought we made a FAQ section for people considering purchase.  If we have not done that, let me know, and I will post answers that have appeared over the years--if you will build the FAQ section for the next person who asks the question.

My Rhodes 22 is the perfect boat for me.  It is beautifully engineered in ways that won't become fully apparent until you have owned your boat for many years.  It sails well, it is comfortable, it trailers well, it is easy to maintain, it is safe, it has great features you can't get on any other boat, and if you have any questions you can discuss them with the man who has been building them for the past 35 years (or whatever--who's counting?).

Sailing with Stan on a Rhodes 22 is my idea of heaven.

I don't mean to intrude on an obviously emotionally-charged subject.
Jeez, I haven't seen this much energy expended on a single subject since
what, when Jeb pushed to have the paper ballots used as campfire tinder in a
state where the gray-hairs moved there to avoid having to keep warm.
But, as I said last night, I am in the market for a new Rhodes22 and the
trailer so I can- guess what?- trailer it.
Having priced these items, we are talking ~3K.
Now, I don't know any decent craftsmen who will make a decent trailer
(materials & labor) for much under 2K.
So why not order a REAL trailer from STAN and have it hitch a ride with the
next commercial mover tractor trailer heading your direction? You'll have
peace of mind that you have the right tool for the right job and you will
stop spending precious sailing time and energy trying to jury-rig your boat.
Just a thought.

So what's a guy to do?  Are you saying that I have no other options than to
trailer my boat all the way to Edenton (there's the first problem--I'll
probably kill myself or someone else in the process)  so that Stan can
adjust my trailer to fit my boat--all boats being a little different?  If
Stan himself doesn't do the work, I'm opening myself up to hellish
consequences?

Honestly, Bill, I'm not trying to be an argumentative PITA here--but I need
to get my trailer fixed and I'm not going to pull it to GBI.  As much as I'd
like to, that's just not an option.  I need to be able to put my faith in a
reputable shop in MN with realistic specs and get this job done.  It can't
be that hard--can it?

I bought the Rhodes because it's supposed to be a trailerable rig. At this
point, mine is simply not, and I don't mind saying I'm more than a little
disappointed.  I love sailing the R22 but if I can't solve this problem I
don't want it.  It's not safe!
