[Rhodes22-list] Electrocution

(this is not a suggestion as to what we should to Rummy for leaving)

I've been away for the last 2 weeks on some very neat islands (Turks &
Caicos) and was reading and deleating my 245 emails. One person wrote (I
deleated it so I can't remember who) that they "Just made it under the High
tension wires with a few feet to spare"

About ten years ago on a canal in Ft Lauderdale I was getting my old Moon
Spinner ('76 Rhodes) ready for the Bahamas and I watched a 65 foot catamaran
go under some high tension wires. He had at least 3 feet to spare, probably
more. The High tension wires were carrying so much voltage they arched the
gap and with a brilliant flash struck the masthead fittings. The captain at
the wheel had serious burns on his hand and legs. I can't guess what or how
the mast was grounded. But I would caution everyone, you don't have to
TOUCH a hightension wire to get electrocuted. I am sure Roger can tell us
how many volts it takes to arch 1 foot to a mast (I do know humidity does
play a part).
I don't want the list to get even smaller!
