Lou, your opening a can of worms, we are gonna have our annual "Taste Great, 
Less Filling" debate.  For a beginner I would recommend the IMF.  It is far 
more simple and in the right hands can be everybit as fast as a conventional 
rig.  The only downside is that it is heavier than the conventional rig.  I 
would recommend the mast raising system that stan offers if you go this 
route.  The novice sailor will benefit from the ability to easily reduce 
sail when overpowered.  This is really an important benefit of the IMF to 
the beginner.  It cost more but should pay dividends on any resell pirce 
when the time comes.  Hope it helps.  Bob Weber S/V Ruba a faster
