[Rhodes22-list] Looking for a used R22, southeast US

Chery,

If you know that sailing is your thing, I would skip the pain of
preliminaries and go right to the Rhodes 22 w/ IMF.

I learned to sail 3 years ago at the Boston Harbor sailing club. We sailed
a range of boats from a Soling racing dingy to a Pearson 26, Pearson 31, Cal
33 & 39 , Albin 28 and a J-29. After that I bought a Rhodes 22 the next
season. It was a 2 owner lake boat, build in 1987 w/ IMF. The boat was
lightly used (never overnighted on) and came complete with all sails and
sailing gear, trailer, a 4 hp 2 stroke outboard (servicable but underpowered
for ocean use) and even a set of dishes in the galley at a price of $6,000.
I did have to buy a hand-held VHF radio and a GPS as well as safety flares,
life jackets etc. for off-shore use. Two season later, my costs have been
minimal and I love the boat. It is easy to single hand sail, easy to day
sail (underway in 5 minutes after boarding) and is large enough for my
family of 4 to vacation on with a little creative preparation. The
simplicity of the Rhodes allows more sailing and less maintenance.

Good luck in your search.

Thank you, Bob and Ed and Rummy. Your comments are helpful. We are
actually torn between what we know would be the ease of the IMF, and the
extra knowledge we would gain from sailing more under the old-fashioned kind
of sails. Any thoughts?

Cheryl (and my other half is Don)
