Rob,

I don't know my battery cable gauges. It came with the motor and its at
least as heavy as my SUV cable.

Rob,

I just got back from running the 15' battery cables from my motor to the
battery. On my '93 model, the battery is located to port across from the
swell
head. The cables run under the port cockpit seat and the cabin settee. So
you
have to pull the settee plank. The hardest part was threading the cables
from
the cockpit pan through the narrow opening/sharp bend into the cabin.

The factory installation of the motor attached the cables in many places
along the run. In the lazarette of my boat, there is a molded 4" conduit to
start
with. Then a bolt through the bottom of the port cockpit pocket is the next

attachment point. Under the settee, two attachments are made to the wood
support shelf glassed to the hull.

I've been told I could use a tractor-trailer disconnect in the lazarette to
save the trouble of rethreading the cable every time I remove the motor.
However, I think the voltage drop across the connector would be too great.

It turns out the "new" (used) motor I just bought sight unseen is an
electric
start model. The leads that come with it don't appear long enough to reach
the battery compartment, although I haven't tried it yet. How are the
cables
run for those of you with an electric start motor? And anyone want to tell
me
if using a second, sealed battery, located in the lazaret is a bad idea? I
don't need to charge the main battery with the motor since I have a solar
panel
that handles that quite well. Thoughts? Thanks - rob
