Stan,

OK, you've thrown out a big lure and I'll bite. Shock
and awe, it was awesome. We now have the ability to
pinpoint targets with a minimum of collateral damage.
Zero civilian causalities? NO, but pretty damn good!
Awesome compared to WW2 carpet bombing and nuclear
weapons. Shock? We started WW2 as the world's 16th
military power, now we're number one. My father didn't
seek this, you didn't seek this with your service, we
were forced into this role by default. We ARE the
Superpower and can use it for good or evil. It took
this nation 80 years to end slavery, something that
existed since mankind first invented a tool, almost a
130 years to let women vote (they used it to outlaw
alcohol), and almost 200 years to give all people of
any color equal rights. The wheels of justice and
democracy turn slowly. The situation in Iraq is ugly,
it was ugly before. If you want real news, put down
the NY Times and read the blogs from the soldiers on
the front line. There is no draft. Everyone there is
there by choice. Maybe they'd rather be back at Fort
Brag pulling guard duty but they knew what they were
signing up for on the front end. This business of "I
support the troops but I don't support the war" is
bullshit! The troops want to end this thing, let the
Iraqi people determine their own destiny, and move on
with their own life. The last thing they want is to
abandon their mission and live a Vietnam Vet syndrome
life. You can solve this problem by yourself for the
next few weeks. I'm leaving for China WED, where I'll
mind my P's and Q's, knowing I have no rights
whatsoever if the Chinese government (COMMUNISTS)
decide they don't like my opinion. Someday there will
be the equivalent of a Boston "tea party" in China,
until then, the Chinese, and Indians, and others will
continue to kick our ass in the marketplace because
they're smart, hungry, well educated, and focused on
the American Ideal (Independence). After they've had
it for several generations like we've had it, they can
get lazy and pontificate over the meaning of life and
what society owes me (let's hope we do better than the
Romans). Just writing some of the previous sentences
could get me stopped at the border in China. Enjoy
your freedom folks! IT AIN'T FREE!

We'll solve the rest of the world's problems when I'm
done slurping noodles with my in-laws.
