Wally,
My wife and I reupholstered the cabin cushions in our boat and the V berth. We reused the old foam and I cut new backing boards on the cabin cushions. ON the V berth we cut new foam. We used 2inch high density foam and then added layer of egg carton on top of that. We even added padding to the bottom 7 inches of our peg board in the V berth. We found the entire project to be easy and inexpensive. We used colored canvas to upholster with because it was cheap, durable and available in a variety of colors. If you want help or would like to see pictures let me know.
Alan
