Chris,
I understood what you meant, I just wanted everyone else to understand
that while I think I can nail down the logistics for a single home port,
I can't recover the boat after one-way trips.
If a group of people wants to take the boat to the Bahamas, have another
group sail it around there for a while, and have a third group return
it--why not? As long as it gets back to home base somehow.
If the boat is useful for Stan and Elton, why not?
If someone wants to take the boat to distant waters because a group
wants to sail somewhere, why not? How about Maine in the Summer? I
know how to store it in Greenwich for a lot less than I know how to
store it in Miami.
Everyone pitches in with their knowledge. Some people can provide some
things, some can provide others. We'll need all kinds of help to keep
it rolling. As long as people want to keep using it, and are willing to
pay a modest use fee, we can afford to keep it. The membership of the
Syndicate can keep changing. If it gets to be a pain, and no one is
willing to do what has to be done, we sell it.
I think it could be a lot of fun, and good for everyone. It appears
that there are enough people who agree with me so that we can try it out.
You've got a lot of experience in outfitting boats for more than day
sailing, and we'll be listening to all of your ideas. Since we all own
the boat, hopefully everyone will leave the boat a little better than it
was when he or she got it.
We'll see.
