I agree.  While far from expert in this field, my 
understanding is that before a tsunami hits, the water 
retreats.  I think, therefore, that an inrushing wave would 
be breaking all the way, not with the smooth trough in front 
of it as shown.

But I am far from certain and an also interested in other's 
thoughts.
