Rummy,

All true.  The only thing I can add to that is the
most often heard phrase on the cockpit voice recorder
(CVR) prior to impact, "OH SHIT!", and the latest
addition to the aviation lexicon since glass cockpits
became commonplace, "what's it doing now?"
