Wally,
Thanks for sharing your travelogue with us! I really enjoy reading about
everyone's travels and adventures. I'm sorry you didn't make Cape Lookout.
I was hoping we could share notes. What you need to do is fix your trailer
and pull your Rhodes over there! It is a beautiful area.

Bill W.

Day 11 Monday
We got up early and motored a couple of miles up the ICW and headed out
again at Little River Inlet. Things become more scenic again once you get
away from Myrtle. Going out of the inlet I got squeezed between a 50 foot
fishing boat and a 30-foot fishing boat. They passed one right after the
other on either side of me. The guy that passed me on my starboard side had

to go out of the channel to do so. The nearly simultaneous wakes from both
port and starboard really had us rocking. I heard some stuff crashing in
the
cabin and it turns out a coffee mug broke when a bottle of Bailey’s fell on

it. Kind of ironic that after three nights on the ocean in mostly heavy
winds the only thing that broke was due to a couple of power boaters
squeezing us with their wakes.

The winds were mostly cooperative and we were able to sail up the coast
arriving at Wilmington Inlet late in the afternoon. The harbor was
beautiful
and the little town of Southport reminded me of New England. There was lots

of shipping traffic here and nice view of lighthouse. As we cruised
through
the harbor I was calling travel agent, and work from cell phone. I tried
without luck to take a couple of extra days off. It looks like we would
have
to get off at Wrightsville so I booked a one-way car rental. We got back on

the ICW and motor sailed up to Wrightsville Beach NC.

We pulled into Wrightsville area around 5 PM. Jenny and I hopped a cab to
airport and picked up rental car for the 7-hour drive home to Knoxville. My

Uncle continued up the ICW with the hopes of making Norfolk in a few days.
I
left him my GPS Map 76 because his other 2 GPS did not have tide info. I
also left him my hand held I brought along as a spare. One of his radios
did
not seem to work real well. I really don’t use GPS at home and I can live
without radio for a month or so.

We had a great trip but I was a little disappointed we didn’t reach Cape
Look Out. Jenny especially had a real sense of accomplishment when we
finished this trip. She proved to herself that she could handle the rough
seas and we are already talking about next years trip! Cocoa to
Wrightsville
is about 430 miles as the crow files. I estimated we actually covered 600
plus miles in a total of 9 days. Due to the lost day and half we actually
on
traveled 7.5 days. All things considered we made pretty good time.

I hope you enjoyed reading about our trip.
