Speaking of wooden boats....

We were invited to crew for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Regatta on "Joss", a 45'
wooden ketch build in Holland back in the 60s. A very sweet boat. It was
very low key - having fun was more important to all 8 of us than actually
racing. The captain works at Anheuser-Busch and gets free beer - eight of us
- 4 couples - managed to kill several cases between 10am and 3pm. And we won
the classic division. At the award ceremony he was told that we'd pissed off
a lot of people - we were obviously having fun, tilting beers, etc. and
managed to smoke some pretty serious racers. The classics started 10 minutes
after the rest of the fleet - we ended up passing more than half of them.
When they announced us as winners we were surprised by the cheering -
apparently other boats were impressed that we'd won both the race and the
party <g>.
