Slim,

I had the 6hp version of that same motor -- a '96 long shaft.  It's a great
motor!  Just sold mine a month or so ago with my Starwind 19.  My old Merc 6
had a 6.5 pitch by 9" prop.  The super low gearing gave it plenty of bite
for going upwind in wind and waves.  The stock prop is something like a
10 -- no good at all for sailboats.  Hope this helps.
