Todd and Dan - There are many ways to deal with gusty conditions - I have a  
furling jib and the IMF main, so the first line of defense is to partially 
furl  the jib.  In gusty conditions, sit on the windward coaming, and keep one  
hand on the tiller (extension) and the other on the mainsheet - in the  puffs, 
release the mainsheet 6 inches to a foot, spilling enough wind to keep  her 
pretty much on her lines. at the next lull, sheet in again and recleat the  
mainsheet - you will get used to the rhythm - it's a bit challenging, but you  
don't want to miss out on sailing when you have to focus a bit more than  usual.
