Hey, I was the guy with the crazy trailer! I ended buying the trailer
over 3 times in repair bills and I still have a lousy trailer, but the
boat is great!

As I have said before, buying a reconditioned boat from Stan would have
been both better, and cheaper. But I learn best by making my own
mistakes.

Cheryl,
Other factors are how much experience do you and your partner
have
with old boats and old sailboats in particular.
At six years anticipate sail deterioration and problems.
However,
you may not need new sails. But you will need some new running rigging.

What is the condition of the bottom? Are you willing to do the
sanding and refinishing? Even if the boat has been kept up, that will
have
to be done.
You heard from Ron who made it back to the Midwest with his
trailer.
About three years ago, a boat sold from NYC. The trailer made it to the
middle of New Jersey. Then the owner had to have it towed to a garage.
The
towing was expensive. The mafia owned the garage. The payoff made the
whole deal a not too good situation. Where is that guy today?
If you are retired and have lots of free time to rebuild, any
boat
can be a good deal. However, if you have little time and less
experience
rebuilding seriously consider spending the extra big dollars on a
professional rebuilder. It takes a lot of labor, a good knowledge base
and
experience to take on the task. And believe me after seven years you
will
have to do some work.
Making a decision by just looking, most any boat that you want
will
look good. Your dreams will cloud your vision. Buying sight unseen is
gambling. Are you a gambler and would you be comfortable with a loosing
hand?
