Your right about not needing nav lights, but if you don't have nav lights I  
think you're supposed to light your sail (light reflecting from the sail) so  
others can see you.  But if you are going to present nav lights, you  should 
do it right so that others understand your course and/or  condition.  In that 
regard, I'm not sure I understood your last post,  but I would recommend 
against stacking white lights, if that's what you  meant.  Quoting from my ABC book: 
" Tows less than 200 meters in length  display two white vertical masthead 
lights, while tows greater than 200 meters  in length display 3.".  Unless 
you're towing, stacking white lights could  generate confusion.
