[Rhodes22-list] BR Frame Material

Peter, thanks. Definitely anxious to get my boat!

The yoke idea came from Stan so I'm playing advocate and trying to
push the idea forward a bit further.

The benefits I'd see of a yoke (vs. a frame sitting on the boom
loosely) are that it would hold the frame in place while getting the
side panels or straps attached, so it doesn't flop around. Could see
this being useful on a windy day. Would also help prevent a wind from
getting under the roof and pulling it off the boom. Perhaps a velcro
strap from the frame passed under the boom provides enough of the same
beneft.

The issue with a yoke is that it would need to be custom molded or
fabricated, adding expense.

However, once that's done, it does provide differentiation for Stan,
and may provide ease of set-up and other benefits. (Sorry, the
marketing guy shows through once in a while.)

I like Ed's idea of HDPE if we were going to try and have a mold made.
I think it's stronger than PVC, which if I recall is known to crack
especially if cold. Would think a yoke could be hand-made from SS or
aluminum if we want to try a prototype.

I'm guessing that we need to be sure not to mix metals in the frame.
Is anyone worried about an uncovered frame or yoke scratching the
boom?

Thanks all for the input. Keep the ideas flowing.

Dave
