[Rhodes22-list] New Guy

Hi, My name's John. Purchased a Rhodes 22 on ebay several months back. Come
to find out after the fact(from rhodes.org) that since it's a 1970 that it's
a Rhodes Continental and not an R22 from GB. Sorry Stan, I didn't know there
was a difference at the time. Sad part is I actually based my decision of
getting it after visiting rhodes.com and .org and reading any review I could
find on the internet. Only found one bad one but it sounded like a personal
issue. 
Oh well I geuss I can't complain too much. Got it for just under 450 and got
a power boat trailer for 150 and I've pretty much got it fully modified to
fit the boat. Did the initial mods by looking at pics of rhodes on trailers.
Bit of an adventure bringing it out of the water and 100 miles home but we
made it. Boat is pretty solid, had jib and main, all rigging, rudder, keel
and fairly new cushions. Been sailing it every chance I get. 
It's not the prettiest boat. Rough old glasswork compared to GB boats. Lousy
bottom job and faded top job. I paint so that's not a problem. Just trying
to figure out how to do it while sailing. Second time out the swing keel
pivot let go and when we pulled it up on the trailer I noticed it was
sideways underneath the shoal portion. (so that's what that clunk was).
Heard the clunk shortly after putting in so we sailed like that for a couple
of hours. Luckily the old line held so we didn't loose the keel itself.
Remade the SS keel pivot assembly. Old won had been welded with plain steel
mig wire. (I weld too) Didn't put any mechanical advantage back in. Have to
do that before my 4 year old son will be able to raise and lower the keel.
Only six stays - 1 fore - 2 port - 2 starboard and one aft and about 8" to
starboard. Odd. Hope Stan won't mind me copting some GB ideas. Come to think
of it I hope I won't be ousted from the list for having an old Continental.
I will do my best to make it nice so people won't look at it and say "that's
a rhodes 22 I heard they were supposed to be nice boats but" (little self
preservation) 
Got lots more to say but my fingers are tired and I don't want to bore
everyone to death. Funny thing is if you met me in person you would hardly
get two words out of me.         Have a good one and thanks for reading
