Wally,

Your sailing friend might like this mod - I took out the right backrest, put in a full table mounted in the same position to complement the cabinet/sink.  I can fill him in more.  

The Coleman is very portable, uses a 1# gas bottle, and might supplement or further warm solar water.

Interesting about the main.  Did his old sail rip or just begin to sag?
