The subject line is found above the body of the email post. While it
is already filled in with a information from a previous post, it does not
always relate to the reply that you are posting. For example the subject of
the last two replies was about gear oil and 2 vs 4 stroke outboard motors.
How are rookies supposed to go back to your discussion about changing gear
oil when the message heading or subject line says 2 vs 4 stroke?
It has been historically shown that mr. rummy is obstinate about making
a little effort to go back an change the subject line, however, there was a
time when mr. Effros wanted the correct subject to be shown in the subject
line. Now we have an epidemic of rookies failing to change the subject
line.
Why change the subject line? One is to find old emails with a
specific subject discussed. Another is that many delete by subject line and
thereby do not either get involved in a pertinent discussion nor even know
that it is taking place.
Bill, surely you have a reference to proper email list etiquette.
Since you are the professional writer, how about giving the rookies a
lesson.
