Chris,

     If you want Captain's chairs, why not just order them and the
appropriate bases from Commodore Spitzer.  Throw the old dog a bone.

     I must presume that these chairs are for your wife?  Surely she would
not let you put in such a luxury item while leaving her on the bench.  Why
not throw the Commode two bones?  Have him design a modification to have two
captains type chairs on each side.  One for the captain and the other for
the worker...  Such a new design might even get Captain Rummy's attention. 
Imagine doubling the rail weight for extreme sailing?
