Dave,
I just changed both the engine oil and gear oil in my 4 stroke Nissan.  The
manual just said to use SAE grade (motor) oil and didn't say anything about
any special oil. - Rob

It’s occurred to me that it might be a good idea to carry a quart of oil
onboard in case the oil level warning light on our outboard came  on.  The
motor
is an 89 Yamaha 4 stroke.  I have no idea how  many hours are on the engine,
but it's a long way from new.

Is there a reason to use the special 4 stroke outboard motor oils from West
Marine, or special oil from Yamaha, or will any good quality 10W-30
(automotive)  engine oil work for a 4 stroke outboard motor?
